Meet Spikesy - our Sensaroo character who represents the sensory profile of tactile over-responsiveness and avoiding.

Spikesy loves soccer, kicking goals, and being part of a team! But here’s the thing… she don’t really like being touched. High fives, surprise hugs, or brushing past someone in line can feel way too much for her. When it comes to touch, she likes her space. She feels my best when things are predictable, and when people respect her personal bubble!

This Spikesy activity book is one of 12 separate downloadable PDF booklets, specifically designed by KaBloom occupational therapists, to help support other OTs working with children experiencing sensory processing challenges!

Spikesy's booklet is filled with a range of specifically chosen and designed activities and ideas to help OTs support kids who demonstrate tactile over-responsiveness and avoidant traits, just like Spikesy, to understand their unique sensory profiles, and advocate for their sensory needs.

What you'll find in the workbook:

  • Full colour, downloadable PDF - 19 pages
  • "About Me" page: introducing Spikesy, her sensory profile and her favourite things
  • "Am I like Spikesy?" pages: in written checklist and illustration style – to support you to discuss the Spikesy's sensory profile with your clients, and support them to reflect on how they might also experience that particular sensory profile
  • Regulation strategies pages: also in written checklist and illustration style – to discuss and brainstorm ways your clients can support and advocate for their proprioceptive needs in different environments. Also includes ways others can help support regulation.
  • "Get Crafty" pages: 'Spikesy Pop-out Shield' craft activity specifically designed with Spikesy's sensory profile in mind. This craft is a great way to engage children in an activity that supports learning about their sensory profile, but that also offers the opportunity to simultaneously work on other goals – such as fine motor skills, motor planning, and executive functioning.
  • "Get Active" pages: each character has a unique motor-skills based game or activity to support understanding of their sensory profile, while also offering opportunities for real-time regulation, or supporting the development of motor skills.
  • Colouring pages: two colouring pages of Spikesy in both her regulated and dysregulated pose – these are great multi-purpose pages that you can use in so many ways in your therapy sessions
  • Puppet pages: two full colour puppet cut out templates of Spikesy in her regulated and dysregulated pose – ready for you to print and laminate and use in your therapy sessions
  • Parent and educator information sheets – each character booklet has two separate handouts for parents and educators, to support them to understand each sensory profile, and strategies for creating a "Spikesy-friendly" home or classroom.
